we came to eat at tonchin on a saturday around 4pm and it was pretty empty. my bf has heard of this place being super famous in new york and has been wanting to try it so we decided to give it a go. its located on the bottom floor of an apartment complex so it might be a little tough to find parking but we got lucky and found one on the street leading into the neighborhood. the place itself is super nicely decorated and has a giant bar where you first enter and dining tables in the back. our servers and other workers were all super welcoming, nice, and attentive. our server also helped me choose which item to choose, which i really appreciated. most of the time when i ask if the servers prefer x dish or y dish, they give me some wishy washy answer saying it depends on my preferences and i hate that. but our super sweet server actually gave me a straight answer and recommended i order the ban ban chicken (a mazemen dish) over the tsukemen. my bf ordered the original tonkotsu ramen. the food came out in about 10-15 minutes and everything was so beautifully plated! my ban ban chicken came with ramen noodles, shredded chicken, bamboo shoots, cashews, and bean sprouts. i liked how it came with a lot of chicken and other toppings so i wasnt just eating a bunch of noodles. the sauce it came with was also really good; it wasn't my favorite because i think it's sesame based so it was really creamy for me but it was well made. my boyfriend also really liked his ramen, saying that the broth here was very flavorful and seemed a bit cleaner than typical places. i personally thought it was splendid because it didnt feel as heavy and oily as other ramen places. the servers also made sure to check up on us often so the service here is excellent. they also sell kakigori which i thought was cool. we didnt try it this time because we already had plans to get other dessert but id definitely be interested in trying next time!

I know this is a ramen spot but definitely do not leave without trying the Fried Fish Bao! Easily one of my favorite pre-ramen dishes they have. Their unique take on the classic edamame is another can't miss. My favorite appetizers would be the cucumber salad, edamame, and their kimchi mushroom. Get those three^ , a fried fish bao, and whichever ramen of your choice and you'll be in the most beautiful food coma wonderland ever. Service is warm, welcoming and attentive too. Aiko provides great hospitality! The atmosphere here is versatile. It can be great for a quick bite with spacious bar seating yet it can also be great for a date night or celebrating a special occasion. Tonchin has a lot to offer!

I've been here a few times and every single time I come it is a wonderful experience. The food is well-prepared, consistent, and elegantly plated. The ambiance is not overwhelming, though occasionally they do host fun music events if you're in the mood for a bit more umph. The standout of my experience here, however, is the server named Lauren. She is attentive and kind, she is quick and knowledgeable as well. She has helped me decide what to eat on a couple occasions and I've never been disappointed with her stellar recommendations. This restaurant is great but their staff is outstanding. I highly recommend this place to both seasoned Ramen enthusiasts and those just trying it for the first time. You're in good hands at Tonchin!
